RUNEASI GUIDE · CASE EXAMPLES

Runeasi case examples: what the numbers showed.

Five examples from Runeasi's booklet. Each one is a single person, so read them as examples of what the test can show.

THE SHORT ANSWER

What do the Runeasi case examples show?

They show problems that appear only under certain conditions. A football player's difference between sides showed up only at high speed. A runner's poor shock absorption showed up only on downhill running. The examples also track a hockey player's progress and show the effect of a backpack and of a pregnancy support belt.

These examples come from Runeasi's info booklet and describe Runeasi's own tests and research. Every runner moves differently, and your results will be your own.

AT A GLANCE

Football player
Impact asymmetry 0.9% easy, 13.7% fast
Knee pain
Poor shock absorption on downhill running only
Hockey player
58% to 74% after two months of jump training
Backpack
66% to 69%, with worse shock absorption
Pregnancy
53% to 85% with an abdominal support belt

RETURN TO SPORT

An international football player: a difference that appeared at speed.

Runeasi tested an international football player on an easy run and on a fast run, and compared the impact on each side.

Easy run, impact asymmetry
0.9%, to the right
Fast run, impact asymmetry
13.7%, to the right

The difference appeared only during high-speed running. Runeasi reports that the data played a part in delaying the player's return to the competition phase.

KNEE PAIN

Pain at the front of the knee: a problem that showed up downhill.

A runner with patellofemoral pain, which is pain around the kneecap, had poor shock absorption on the weaker leg. The problem appeared on downhill running only.

Extra eccentric shock training was added. This is strength work where the muscles absorb landings while they lengthen. The aim was to make the runner stronger on downhill runs and less likely to get injured.

REHAB PROGRESS

A hockey player after a knee injury: 58% to 74%.

Runeasi tracked a hockey player recovering from a knee injury, before and after a two-month program of plyometric training, which is jump training.

LOAD CARRIAGE

A trail runner with a 7.5 kg backpack.

A trail runner ran at 14 km/h with and without a 7.5 kg paragliding backpack. With the backpack he moved in a more stable way, and his shock absorption (impact loading) got worse. Runeasi notes that this matters for the health of his muscles and joints, and for the energy he uses.

Running quality
66% without the backpack, 69% with it
Ground contact time, left and right
214 and 205 ms without, 245 and 233 ms with
Cadence
183 without, 185 with
Flight ratio
36% without, 26% with

PREGNANCY

Running during pregnancy: 53% to 85% with a support belt.

Runeasi worked with Marion Raballand's research group on running during pregnancy. Runeasi reports that the research found an abdominal support belt improved both comfort and running quality, and reduced the load on the pelvis during running.

One participant, without the belt
Running quality 53%
Same participant, with the belt
Running quality 85%
