TMJ THERAPY IN RICHMOND
Why clients in Richmond choose us.
TMJ physiotherapy in Richmond for jaw pain serves a wide catchment: Steveston, Terra Nova, City Centre, East and South Richmond, and drivers who come in along the Steveston Highway. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the small hinge in front of each ear, and when it is irritated you can feel it while chewing, yawning, or first thing in the morning after a night of clenching.
Care is led by physiotherapists trained in the jaw, working to the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC scope: hands-on treatment of the jaw and neck, gentle mobility work, and a home program you will actually use. Our RMTs and chiropractor work in the same studio, so soft-tissue and neck treatment can be added when it helps the jaw settle.
We cannot guarantee a cure, but treatment can help reduce jaw pain and improve how the jaw moves. Some of our Richmond clinicians speak Mandarin and Cantonese, so you can be assessed in the language you are most comfortable with.
A broad clinician roster keeps new-client waits short, and Mandarin- and Cantonese-speaking physios make it easier to describe exactly where the jaw hurts.

FAQ
TMJ Therapy in Richmond: questions.
Do you have Mandarin- or Cantonese-speaking physios for TMJ care in Richmond?
+
Yes. Our Richmond roster includes clinicians who speak Mandarin and Cantonese. Jaw problems are easier to treat when you can describe them clearly, so mention your language preference when you book and we will match you.
Is TMJ therapy covered by ICBC, MSP or my extended health plan?
+
If your jaw pain began after a car crash, it is covered under ICBC's pre-approved physiotherapy, with no referral needed. Extended health plans (Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield and others) are direct-billed up to your plan limit. MSP only covers a limited number of visits for people on Premium Assistance.
Is treatment inside the mouth required?
+
No. Intraoral work, gentle treatment with a gloved finger inside the mouth, is optional and only done with your consent. Many people improve with outside-the-mouth jaw and neck work plus a home program, and you can decline intraoral treatment at any time.
Can physio replace a dentist's night guard for grinding?
+
No, they do different things. A physiotherapist treats how the jaw and neck move and reduces pain. A night guard is made by a dentist to protect your teeth from grinding. We do not make guards or adjust the bite, so when grinding is part of the problem we work alongside your dentist.
